Abstract

This tour combines an exclusive visit to a small-scale Hydrangue (Hortensia) farm with  an artisanal pottery workshop in the Eastern highlands of Antioquia. The villages east of Medellín are famous for its traditions and cultural identity and just one hour outside of the city one finds here one of the most important regions of Colombia for flower farming. Flowers are within the most important export products of the country. The municipality of La Ceja offers ideal climatic conditions and sunlight for a great variety of export flowers like gerberas, daisies, chrysanthemums and pompons. The locals have a special relationship with flowers. Even strolling through the humblest villages, you’ll see the colorful gardens that they proudly display. It’s a show of their love of nature but also their expertise. Explore a typical flower farm and learn more about the conditions of farming and the process of exportation.

Afterwards travel further to the village of Carmen de Viboral, known for its tradition of ceramic or pottery manufacturing. For generations, the unique style of pottery work turned this economic sector into the most emblematic tradition of the region. Visit the local ceramic museum and learn about the history of pottery in Colombia. Experience a private pottery workshop and make your own ceramic handicraft.
